Courting the Guidance Counselor
NKU holds several yearly events for guidance counselors including "dinner with the deans", "Educator’s Day", "Black and Gold Day: Guidance Counselor Suite", "Guidance Counselor Workshop", and our Guidance Counselor Advisory board. These events are effective in keeping NKU on the forefront of our guidance counselors’ minds when speaking to students and it exposes them to the many aspects of our campus. We use these programs to strengthen our relationship with our counselors thus building a better bond with their students.

 

The Only Constant is Change: Managing High Turnover in College Admissions
The average tenure of a newly hired admissions counselor is 1.7 years and many institutions report losing admissions staff at an average of 3 per year. This can have a severe impact on office morale, productivity, transition for new students, and overall results. This session will explore national turnover in your office. Ample time will be allotted to allow for audience input and information exchange.

Panel discussion of ethical issues that affect the registrar’s office.

 

Student Workers - What Do They Do?
Roundtable on best practices for students workers. Each college allows their student workers to have varying levels of responsibility. Ideas to be exchanged may change some of your office practices.

 

Web Reporting
In this session, colleagues from WKU demonstrate how they are using the SAS BI Web server and report studio to provide deans, department heads, (eventually admissions personnel) with real time reports that can be used to make recruitment decisions/evaluations, etc.

 

Optimizing Your Office Structure
Facilitated session on cross-training and what to do if someone leaves unexpectedly. Who in your office will know what that person was doing? Discussion along with ideas for transitioning roles.

 

FERPA Training for Temporary and Student Workers
Discussion of quick and easy training to familiarize temporary and student workers with FERPA regulations.

 

Early Alert…Implementing Collaborative Retention Efforts with an Online Form
In this session, a representative from NKU’s students Achievement Center will share retention efforts at NKU, including how providing faculty with an online "alert form" paves the way for early interventions.
